NARWHAL’S NEW SPACE OPENS WITH AN INAUGURAL SOLO EXHIBITION
Story by Alice Greene
Tomorrow night, take a trip to The Junction to celebrate the opening of Narwhal Projects’ new space on Dundas Street West.
To introduce their new home, the Narwhal team has a great selection of exhibitions opening over the next few months, the first of which is Tibi Tibi Neuspiel’s The Confident Lesbian. It’s the first solo exhibition for Neuspiel, who is “best known for his deft use of pigmented wax as medium for his wryly humourous sculptures”. You may remember his commissioned performance work, The Tie-Break, with artist Geoff Pugen, which ran during the 2011 iteration of Toronto’s Nuit Blanche.
This series features new ambitious works that examine the relationship between the natural world and “elements culled from popular culture chosen for, or repurposed to present, subtly sinister qualities”; a piece called ‘Infinite Shrimp Ring’ already had us intrigued.
