Laura Siegel describes the roots of her collection’s use of traditional Eastern craftsmanship:
“In my travels, I would see so many different types of embroidery work, in museums particularly, that don’t exist anymore because people just stopped practising their craft,” she remembers. “Traditional embroidery styles, like block printing [a technique used for printing text, images or patterns onto textiles], are close to being extinct.”
