OUR NEW TOP MUSIC VIDEO PICKS
Story by Laura Hermiston
PS I Love You – “Princess Towers”
PS I Love You’s second LP, Death Dreams, was released earlier last month and has received rave-reviews from critics in North America and Europe. Watch their new video inspired by Kingston Ontario’s city view from the water (and seeing that really strange-looking building that changes the view from pretty to eerie).
Julia Holter – “Our Sorrows”
Julia Holter has collaborated with director Naomi Yang (Galaxie 500, Damon & Naomi) on a video for her single “Our Sorrows” off of her album Ekstasis. Yang was inspired by the lyric ‘if you call out, I will follow.” Which to her seemed to be about Holter listening for inner direction. When she mentioned this idea to her, she agreed. Holter said that she often thinks of her music as something that is inside her, almost like an intuition that she allows to lead her.” I guess this explains why she is winding a miles-long string maze in this video.
Coco Rosie – “We Are On Fire”
Watch the beautiful slow-mo video for the title track off of their new album We Are On Fire. This song was produced by TV On The Radio sound guru, Dave Sitek. The 7” is now available on Touch And Go. Be sure to check the B-side track “Tearz For Animalz” recorded with Antony Hegarty (best known from Antony and the Johnsons).
Smile - “Clean Gloves, Dirty Hands”
The brainchildren behind two of Sweden’s most beloved musical projects have combined to form one artistic force, the result being an infectious pop revolution. Smile is the collaboration of Björn Yttling, world-renowned writer, producer and bassist of international indie-pop powerhouse Peter Bjorn and John, and Joakim Åhlund of bear-masked electro outfit Teddybears. Watch the video for the single off of their debut LP A Flash in the Night.
