A concern for the well-being of our environment birthed a concern for our own well-being and thus the green movement has transcended from the earth to our skin. Our generation has gone beyond flower halos and peace signs. We’ve been taught to question every chemical, silicone, and preservative and will quickly cast away any product that creates cause for damage. We unapologetically want the natural, the organic and the fresh. To put things simply, we’ve unearthed a generation of purists, and we’re just as careful of what we put on our bodies as we are of what we put into them.
Here are just a couple of sustainable companies that are working to promote beauty and body products with a natural edge:
Tom’s of Maine was created in 1970 by Tom and Kate Chappell, a couple that was constantly on the hunt for natural foods and products for their family. They went from creating non-phosphate laundry detergent to expanding their line to include natural toothpastes, deodorants, and soaps. Tom’s emphasizes sustainable manufacturing practices by eliminating animal testing, substituting aluminum with laminate, packaging products in recyclable materials, and has introduced environmentally friendly initiatives such as ‘Gimme 5′, a program wherein customers can recycle five plastic products to be made into household products.

This e-tailer has set out to make life simple for Canadians with a disdain for all things adulterated. The natural beauties at freshfaced.ca source out products free of synthetic chemicals, sulfates, phtalates as well as other harsh ingredients. The online shop was founded because of the frustration felt with the lack of natural beauty products in Canada. The Fresh Faced team gathered to create an online source where readers can peruse editorials, shop for products and find out the ingredients of each item as well as find out how they are made and tested.
