THE BEST COSMETICS BUYS FROM THE WHOLE FOODS AISLES
Story by Jennifer Ng
Whole Foods Markets have brought new life to “beauty” grocery shopping. This organic store carries some of the best natural and eco-friendly brands out there – ones that are equally as effective as their chemical-filled counterparts.
This multi-purpose moisturizer comes out as a thick, yellow paste, giving off the most wonderful herbal-lemon scent. It’s formulated with vitamin E, rosemary, and calendula to soothe and hydrate any dry or rough patches – think elbows, feet, and knees. At night, put on a generous layer all over the face for a hydrating mask. You’ll wake up with glowing, plumped up skin.
These toonie-sized perfumes won’t break the bank, and since they’re made with soy wax and essential oils, you can be sure they won’t hold any potentially toxic chemicals. These are great for an afternoon pick-me-up, and they’re so portable you can carry a few scents to suit different moods. Try Lilac for a spicy floral, Sandalwood for a heady, unisex fragrance, or Tuscan Blood Orange for a fresh, citrus kick.
Suki Exfoliating Foaming Cleanser
This vegan, deep-cleansing exfoliant will leave your skin glowing. Scoop out a dime-sized portion and smooth onto your face; the sugar granules will dissolve and foam as they gently slough away dead cells, and the balmy texture will hydrate the newly exposed skin. Also, the lemongrass fragrance is to die for.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Or not, since Dr. Bronner’s already done it for you. This 18-in-1 soap is a camper’s favourite, as the natural ingredients won’t destroy the land around you if you take an outdoor shower. It’s also extremely concentrated, so a bottle will last you a while. To use as body wash, squeeze a dime-sized amount onto a loofah and be amazed at how far it goes. It’s also fantastic for laundry – just make sure to dilute it so you don’t spend ages scrubbing out the bubbles.
This entire brush line is amazing – cruelty-free, vegan, and beautifully shaped. However, the real star is definitely the Bronzer Brush, essentially a “kabuki-style” on a long handle. The brush head is almost spherical, so it covers a lot of ground, and the dense bristles give amazing coverage. Try it with powder, blush, and bronzer, or even all three to give a very blended look. The best part? Since it’s synthetic, it’ll dry quickly after washing.
