WHAT TO WATCH FOR & WHERE TO GO OVER TWO WEEKS OF FASHION FESTIVITIES
Story by Odessa Paloma Parker
Starting today, Toronto will forge into a two-week long fashion free for all, including parties, presentations, and good old fashioned fashion shows. Here are a few highlights, although the whole journey is sure to be amazing.
DIScONNECT at The Hoxton
The creators of The Collections (former members of The Fashion Collective, FYI) will kick off their series of shows tonight with the seasonal celebration of fashion film, DIScONNECT. Showing tonight: Greg Swales, Zaiba Jabbar, Gabriele Gettman, Kevin Calero, Adam Levett, Leda & St. Jaques, Aaron Kopff, Eva Michon, and Sean Cartwright and Joey Whitelaw (of Heratics). Bonus points for tonight’s performers, Lioness, who are also featured in Plaid’s Fall/Winter print issue!

Philip Sparks What’s Your Colour?
Beloved Toronto-based designer, Philip Sparks, will preview his S/S13 accessories collection tonight, but most importantly the presentation will mark the debut of his footwear collection for women. Swoon!
The Collections
Canada’s top emerging designers will showcase their S/S13 pieces at the Burroughes Building over two days, as part of a new series of fashion shows put on by former members of The Fashion Collective. Laura Siegel, Chloé Comme Parris, Label, Klaxon Howl, Sid Neigum and Cara Cheung are hoping to exceed their past press attention, and gain some new fans along the way.
Paria Shirvani
Choosing to launch her next collection, Zephyr, off-site at Oz Studios, Paria Shirvani will no doubt impress with an offering of chic separates and dresses which will be shown as a fashion installation.
Evan Biddell
Theatrical and thoughtful, Evan Biddell is known for creating collections with elaborate themes and gorgeous garments. After being out of the spotlight for a few seasons, he’s back in Toronto to show us what he’s been up to – and we can’t wait!
Mercedes Benz StartUp
In our Fall/Winter print issue, we explored the world of fashion design competitions from Project Runway Canada to the Mercedes Benz StartUp show, which is scheduled as part of World MasterCard Fashion Week. Nine designers will go head-to-head as they show their work to an avid audience of industry insiders.
Vintage Crawl Toronto
Once again, Plaid has pulled together a roster of Toronto’s top vintage retailers for a late-night shopping crawl event. Vintage Crawl Toronto promises treats, deals and sales – make sure to get your map at a participating store so you don’t miss a beat.
