A “modern day Amazon queen” was the starting inspiration point for Cara Cheung, who presented a short n’ tight assortment of dresses and separates last week at the Burroughes Building.
“My idea of glamour evolves with every collection and this season I was drawn to a more intense, eclectic type of beauty,” Cheung recalls about beginning to design the pieces. “I incorporated graphic tribal prints, bold colours, brocades, novelty weaves, silks, leather metallic fringe and oversized black and white crystals for a multidimensional textured effect.”
These are definitely looks for the bold and the beautiful; Cheung’s presentation was a distinct departure from the occasionally androgynous, often sporty pieces we saw from the other designers at The Collections. With the clothes falling into the category of ‘going out glamour’, the Cara Cheung woman is one who wants to be noticed. The designer herself seems to thrive off this notion. “The CC woman embodies the urban sophisticate and tough rocker chick all wrapped up in one. She pulls off bold fashion choices with the way she carries herself and never goes unnoticed.”
The crucial complements for pulling these pieces off would be a great set of toned legs, arms and abs – no superfluous accessorizing needed. With electric green and hot pink accenting the body-con looks, and flashes of fringe swinging from those curves, you’d be hard pressed to take your eyes of anyone wearing a Cara Cheung S/S13 piece.
