BARELY THERE SPORTSWEAR MAKES A STATEMENT

Toronto isn’t necessarily known for its sexy or provocative style; so it’s no surprise it took Montreal’s Travis Taddeo to bring some serious skin to the runway.

With bold garments featuring cut outs and sheer fabric exposing most of the model’s torsos, Taddeo went the ‘body beautiful’ route for Spring/Sumer 2013. No peplums, no pencil skirts – knots, like those at Label’s show the week before, were a subtle but key design element on flowing jersey dresses; for men, shorts were key and paired with scant tanks.

Keeping to a scheme of black, white, grey and cobalt blue, the designer added some bedroom chic with a paisley print on a few loose, pyjama-like garments.

Leather and the accent of pseudo bondage harnesses caught everyone’s attention, but it was the ultra femme detail of tiny bows adorning otherwise scandalously sheer dresses that created an interesting juxtaposition within the collection. As a young designer, Taddeo has clearly learned the lesson of “Always keep ‘em guessing”, and our attention will undoubtedly be rapt for seasons to come.
